Custom PVC Film for LVT Wear Layers, Non-Slip Flooring, and Floor Marking Tape

Achilles USA manufactures custom PVC and PVC alloy films for three core flooring applications: LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and LVP wear layers, anti-slip and non-skid surface films, and industrial floor marking tape. Our calendered films are produced from 5 mil to 20 mil in a full range of finishes — double polish, matte, suede, taffeta, and embossed textures, with hardness options from 4.5H (19 PHR) to 8S (65 PHR) to match your specific flooring construction requirements.

What types of flooring applications use PVC film?

PVC film is used in three primary flooring applications: LVT and LVP wear layers, which provide the clear, scratch-resistant top surface in Luxury Vinyl Tile and Luxury Vinyl Plank constructions; non-skid and anti-slip films, used in safety mats, stair treads, and industrial floor coverings; and floor marking tape, the durable base substrate for warehouse and facility safety lane marking. Achilles USA engineers each film to the specific thickness, hardness, finish, and compliance requirements of the end use, with hardness options from 4.5H (19 PHR) to 8S (65 PHR) and thickness from 5 mil to 20 mil.

Applications

  • Non-Skid and Anti-Slip PVC Film — Plastic films are used as surface layers in residential and commercial flooring, safety mats, stair treads, and industrial floor coverings. The non-skid texture is built directly into the film surface during calendering, available in hexagon, taffeta, suede, and custom emboss patterns, eliminating the need for secondary coating or treatment. Hardness and flexibility are customizable to match the substrate and installation requirements of your specific flooring construction.

  • PVC Film for Industrial Floor Marking Tape — PVC film is the base substrate for industrial floor marking and safety tape used in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and commercial spaces. Our films provide the puncture, tear, and abrasion resistance required for high-traffic floor applications, with color options in clear, opaque, and custom tints to meet OSHA and ANSI color-coding standards for safety lane marking, hazard identification, and area demarcation. Available in matte and gloss finishes with conformability for both flat and slightly irregular floor surfaces.

  • PVC Wear Layer Film for LVT, LVP, and SPC Flooring — The wear layer is the top protective surface of any Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), or SPC flooring construction. It protects the decorative print film below from scratches, stains, and abrasion. Achilles USA manufactures clear, high-transparency PVC wear layer film in the thickness ranges specified by the flooring industry. Our wear layer films offer high optical clarity, abrasion resistance, and dimensional stability to protect the photorealistic print film in LVT construction. Custom formulations are available for UV-cure coating compatibility and embossed finish options.

Compliance & Regulatory Standards

Achilles USA PVC flooring films are manufactured with full regulatory traceability and are available with compliance documentation for the standards most commonly required by flooring OEMs, retailers, and commercial specification buyers.

  • Proposition 65 (California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act) — California's Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings before exposing consumers to chemicals listed as known carcinogens or reproductive toxins.

  • REACH / SVHC — The EU's REACH regulation restricts the use of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in products placed on the European market. Our flooring films can be formulated to meet REACH/SVHC requirements, supporting LVT and LVP manufacturers who export to European markets or work with retailers that require REACH compliance across their supply chain.

  • CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) — The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act sets strict limits on lead content and phthalates in consumer products, with particular attention to materials used in residential environments. Achilles USA PVC film for flooring applications can be formulated with CPSIA compliance documentation for manufacturers supplying residential flooring, children's play mats, and other consumer product applications.

  • CONEG (Coalition of Northeastern Governors)  CONEG restricts the intentional introduction of four heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium) in packaging materials and, by extension, in many consumer product supply chains.

  • RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) — RoHS limits the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment sold in the EU. For flooring applications, RoHS compliance is most relevant when PVC films are used as surface or marking materials in environments with electronic equipment, raised flooring systems, or ESD-sensitive installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What PVC wear layer thickness do I need for LVT flooring?

Wear layer thickness for LVT and LVP flooring is measured in mils (thousandths of an inch). For residential applications, 6 mil to 20 mil is standard, with thicker layers recommended for homes with pets or heavy foot traffic. For commercial applications, 20 mil to 30+ mil is the industry benchmark, with 28 mil and above required for high-traffic environments like retail stores, hotels, and healthcare facilities. Achilles USA manufactures clear PVC film for wear layer applications from 5 mil to 20 mil, with custom thickness available for specific LVT construction requirements.

  • What is the difference between a PVC wear layer and a print film in LVT?

In LVT flooring construction, the print film (also called the decorative layer) carries the photorealistic wood, stone, or tile visual. The wear layer sits directly above it as a clear, transparent protective film that shields the print from scratches, stains, abrasion, and moisture. Achilles USA manufactures both clear wear layer films and opaque PVC films suitable for use as the print film substrate layer in LVT constructions.

  • Can Achilles USA produce PVC film with a custom embossed texture for flooring?

Yes. Achilles USA produces flooring films with a full range of surface finishes built directly into the film during the calendering process, including double polish, matte, suede, taffeta, hexagon, and custom emboss patterns. Custom texture development is available for OEM flooring manufacturers who require a proprietary surface finish for their LVT or anti-slip product lines.

  • What hardness range is available for Achilles USA PVC flooring films?

Achilles USA PVC flooring films are available in a hardness range from 19 PHR (4.5H) to 65 PHR (8S), covering the full spectrum from semi-rigid wear layers to highly flexible anti-slip and marking tape films. Our engineering team can formulate to a specific Shore hardness, flexibility, or cold crack performance requirement based on your flooring construction and end-use environment.
